La série de robots proposée dans ce blog touche directement la démarche du Pop Art par son aspect intime, humoristique & kitsch. La créatrice a paré ses figurines de métal, d'objets de récupération chinés tout au long de sa vie notamment dans le New York des années 60’ à 80’. Le caractère rare, hétéroclite des accessoires, le sens du détail : petites voitures de course en série limitée du NY des années 70, les dînettes fifties, nous portent dans ces périodes fastes & insouciantes de l'Amérique moderne.
Ces accessoires qui restaient, là, au côté de l’artiste, qui en constituaient sa mémoire & sa nostalgie, sont venus orner ses robots. Ils nous racontent l’émergence de la société de consommation américaine, le culte de l’objet. C’est avant tout l’histoire d'une vie qui s’incarne dans ses personnages. La vie est un art, life is pop, absolutely !!!!

De l'ancien avec cette boite tête de coq, sur laquelle s'imposait une crête de plumes bleues, blanches & rouges.

Des épaules vieux moules à cakes & des bras grattoirs tout neufs. Un vrai mélange de recyclage avec une bonne dose d'humour !

An antic tin with a rooster hea , on which a crest made of blue, white & red feathers was a must !

Shoulders made of old cake-tins & arms made with brand new ice-scrapers. A true recycled mixture with a good dose of humour.

Lilly of the Valley

Un robot qui parle de lui même, il nous plonge dans la nostalgie, avec sa gracieuse boite vintage.

Le miracle , c'est celui d'avoir trouvé une jupe-moule à cake orange assortie ! Après celà , tout s'est
enchainé : elle est allée cueillir des fleurs qu'elle rapporte dans son panier d'osier, elle a pris un paquet de buiscuits au cas où...

C'était le 1er Mai & vu la circonstance, je l'ai appelée Lilly of the valley, nom pour le muguet en anglais !

A robot that speaks for itself, it leads us to the nostalgia with its graceful, antic tin box.

The miracle is to have found a matching orange cake-tin as a skirt ! After that everything connected : she went to pluck flowers to bring home inside her wicker-basket & she carries away a packet of buiscuits just in case of a little hunger...

It was May 1st : in France, it's Labour Day, & we exchange lillies of the valley to bring good luck...

So in view of the event, I named her Lilly of...

A driving mirror behind the head ,with on top , as a coil of hair, a tin doll's dinner from the 50's decorated with an antic iron pin. She added a flower from her bunch...

The Wizard of Mulholland Drive

En trouvant cette superbe boite chez un antiquaire , je devais créer un robot à sa hauteur.

Après avoir empilé plusieurs éléments, je me suis représentée un de mes films favoris du cinéma américain "Le Magicien d'Oz". J'ai voulu alors le moderniser avec les DVD de "Mulholland Drive", mon film préféré de David Lynch.

Je l'ai ensuite habillé de filets, de tubes Partagas sur des cardans pour le mouvement ; de ressorts de traction en ceinture & boucles d'oreilles ; de guirlandes de Noël pour ses cheveux...

Le Magicien (Wizard) of Mulholland Drive était né !

Wwhen I found this beautiful tin box at an antic store, I knew I had to create a robot up to it !

After having piled up a few components, I visualized one of my favourite movie : "The Wizard of Oz".

Then I decided it should be modernized with David Lynch "Mulholland Dr." DVDs, my update favorite.

I dressed him up with nylon nets; cigar tubes on top of universal joints, to be in motion; springs as belt & earrings; xmas garlands as hair-dress...

The Wizard of Mulholland was born !

Robot à deux Faces

Styliste de mode, mon premier métier, çela ne s'oublie pas !

Très au courant des endroits branchés partout oû je voyage, je ne reviens jamais les mains vides car j'ai toujours en tête de nouveaux robots.

Le ruban adhésif Tête de Mort (edition limitéé) ; la poupée manga; le mini sac en plastic transparent; les barrettes à pois aux couleurs berlingots juchées sur une boite du même nom & chinée dans un vide grenier.

Sans oublier les épaules-boites de pâte dentifrice trouvées dans le 3ème sous-sol chez mon oncle & qu'il avait gardées là depuis la guerre...

Et lorsque le mélange de ces deux mondes s'emboite & s'harmonise, le look est crée : The Nana Miss Fashion Attitude

Two sides Robot

I can't forget my first trade as a fashion stylist.
So I stay connected to hype shops everywhere to buy items for future robots. Like the black & white pirate tape (limited edition); the manga doll; the clear plastic handbag; polka-dots hair slides with candy colors & set on top of a tin box (found at a yard sale), filled with the same sweets a long time ago!

Not to mention the shoulders made of toothpaste tin boxes, found at my uncle's 3rd basement & kept there since the war...

So when the mixture of these two worlds fits in with harmony, the look is created : Miss Fashion Attitude.

French Samourai

Il fallait un compagnon à "Desperate Housewife" (robot suivant du blog), un chevalier de la cuisine, un Samourai des temps modernes...

J'avais dejà trouvé sa tête chez un antiquaire & c'est tout à fait par hasard que je suis tombée sur cette batterie de moules à patisserie...

Quelques éponges métalliques, un coquettier et notre Samourai était prêt...

C'est un fumeur: il est français & ne sort jamais sans son portable !

I wanted a boy-friend for "Desperate Housewife" (next robot on blog), a knight of the kitchen, a samourai of modern times...

I already had his head found at an antic store & it's by pure chance that I came across this complete set of cake tins...A few metallic scrubbing sponges, an egg cup, our samourai was ready...

He is a smoker and he is french & never leaves without his cell phone !

Desperate Housewife

Quand je suis tombée sur ce stérélisateur à biberons dans un vide grenier, je l'ai tout de suite visualisé en "Desperate Housewife"!

Je n'avais plus qu'à me mettre au travail & l'habiller : un tablier à poche pour les ustenciles de cuisine glanés un peu partout.

Je la voulais coquette & sûr d'elle avec une bouche pulpeuse, des gros seins & quelques bijoux : un papillon sur sa tête & des diamants sur son
tablier ....

When I found this pot at a yard sale (made to sterilize feeding bottles), I immediately thought of creating a
"Desperate Housewife"!

So I went home to work & dressed her by making an apron & adding kitchen utencils that I had kept for many years.

I wanted her to be stylish & sure of
herself, with a sexy mouth, big breasts & a few pieces of jewlery : a butterfly on her head & a few diamonds on top
of her apron...

A Clockwork Macho Man & His Girl Friend (Macho Man face)

Ma passion des voitures de course remonte à mon enfance, lorsqu'à l'âge de 7 ans, j'ai supplié ma mère d'assister aux 24 HEURES du MANS où nous avions de la famille...

C'est devenu un rituel !
Depuis je collectionne les petites voitures & celles-ci en fer blanc ne sont d'ailleurs plus en production.
Je les ai trouvé à New York dans les années 70 & j'ai acheté tout le stock !

Ce robot a son côté macho, celui du garçon et son côté féminin, celui de sa girl friend d'où son plateau à roulettes pour passer de l'un à l'autre.

On peut déplacer les voitures à sa guise & ouvrir les panneaux de signalisation routière en bois (face 2).

J'ai choisi le nom de Clockwork, car il signifie tout à la fois le mouvement, le mécanisme et l'horlogerie.

C'est aussi un clin d'oeil au film : Orange Mécanique ( A Clockwork Orange ) .

My passion for racing cars goes back to my childhood, when at 7 years old, I begged my mother to go to Le Mans for the 24 Hours Race & we were lucky enough to have family living there...

So it became a ritual !
Since then, I collect small cars & these tin ones are not produced any more; I found them in NYC in the 70's & bought the entire stock!

This two sides robot has its macho side for the man & its feminine one for the girlfriend, whence the need for the rolling tray to switch back & forth.

The cars can be moved, the road signs open.

The name I chose is also a wink at the movie
"A Clockwork Orange".

Crazy Archie goes to the car-race

Un robot sur plateau à roulettes pour l'associer à la vitesse.

Il est branché : il s'habille de bandes adhésives imprimées tigre, camouflage & têtes de mort, chacune en série limitée.

Il est aussi nostalgique : son corps, une vieille cantine de l'armée.
Sa tête, une lampe de poche des années 50.
Les voitures en métal achetées dans les années 60 à New York font partie de ma collection privée; elle remontent à mon enfance lorsque le premier cadeau de mon Beau-père fut un circuit aimanté de petites voitures de course, très en avance pour son temps !

Le badge "Crazy Archie" vient d'un salon de mode : son nom est trouvé !

Et bien sûr , il ne peut pas rouler sans sa clef de contact !

A robot on a rolling tray to combine with speed.

He is hype : he dresses with printed tiger, camouflage & skull tapes, each one in limited mass-production.

He is also a nostalgic : his body, an old army canteen.
His head, an electric torch from the 50's.
The tin cars come from NYC in the 60's & are part of my private collection; which goes back to my childhood, when I got, as a first toy from my stepfather, a magnetized roundabout road with small racing cars, very ahead of its time!

The "Crazy Archie" pin comes from a fashion trade show : I got his name !

And of course he can't drive without his car key !

E.T. Girl

En finissant le montage de ce robot, j'ai tout de suite pensé à "E.T." avec ses 3 pieds coupelles, son long cou et pour la touche finale, une antenne raccord à air comprimé...

J'ai donc voulu créer sa petite soeur, en l'habillant d'une corbeille métallique enrubannée.

C'est une référence au film, à la famille, à ses racines : "E.T. téléphone maison"

When I was almost finished putting together this robot, it reminded me of "E.T.", with its 3 goblets as feet, its long neck, & for the final touch, an antenna made with a compressed air joint...

So I decided to create its little sister & I added an antic metal basket with a bow.

In references to the movie, the family, the roots : "E.T. phone home"

Saga Africa

J'ai d'abord trouvé cette boite Coca-Cola sur laquelle j'ai tout de suite envisagé, pour ses bras, des cannettes écrasées, vieillies au soleil et d'autres découpées pour ses mains.

Par hasard, dans un magasin africain à Paris, j'ai vu ce camion recyclé rouge avec un signe Coca dessus... La Saga se précisait !

Elle est devenue Africa lorsque j'ai placée à l'intérieur des poupons des années 50 en caoutchouc, un noir & un blanc !

First I found this Coca Cola tin box & considered immediately to have as arms, crushed soda cans & as hands, cut out ones.

By chance, as I was in Paris, I saw this recycled truck in an african shop with a Coca sign on it...
The Saga became precise !

It became Africa when I put inside it rubber babies from the 50's, a black & a white one !

Miss La Perruche

Elle est montée sur un rond en bois peint pour que son corps pivote, avec des charnières pour ouvrir ses bras.

Sa tête est faite d'un composant électronique monté sur une boite en bois ramenée des U.S.A, laquelle contient un sifflet avec un chant d'oiseau... L'un d'eux s'est installé au dessus, dans son nid !
Cette boite La Perruche, reçue en cadeau, a été mon inspiration première & tout naturellement elle a donné suite aux autres robots-sculptures Pop, créant ainsi une nouvelle famille pleine d'humour !

The body rotates on top of a round, painted, wood base & the arms open on hinges; its head is an electronic device mounted on a wood box from U.S.A, inside which there is a whistle with a bird song... One of them settled on top inside its nest !

I got this antic tin sugar box "La Perruche" (parakeet) as a present, & it was my very first inspiration for many other Pop robots-sculptures to come, creating so a new family full of humour!

"Le passé enrichit le présent"

Cette panoplie de jouets des années 50 (seau, broc, tasses & sous-tasses) a décoré mes diverses habitations depuis son achat aux Etats Unis dans les années 70

Le plateau est en souvenir des serveuses en patins à roulettes lors d'un voyage à Los Angeles.

La bourse à fermoir (en acier & émaux), pour celles en Allemagne qui les porte pour rendre la monnaie.

Et bien sûr les plumes, pour les girls du Moulin Rouge & un clin d'oeil à Toulouse-Lautrec !

"The past enriches the present"

This tin toy's outfit (bucket, jug, cup & saucers) from the 50's, has decorated my various homes since I bought it in the Hamptons in the 70's.
The tray is for the waitresses on roller skates I saw during a trip in L.A.
The purse, in metal & enamel, for the ones in Germany, who carry them to give you change.
And of course the feathers, for the Girls at the Moulin Rouge in Paris & a wink for the painter Toulouse-Lautrec !

Fan Club Lady

J'ai acheté cette bouilloire anglaise pour sa forme efféminée, dans un vide-greniers à Londres : le moment était venu d'en faire une Lady !

Sa bouche trônait sur un flacon de parfum de Salvator Dali , acheté dans son Musée à Paris. Elle porte une voilette noire en hommage à ma mère, qui quand j'étais enfant, m'entraînait chez sa modiste pour choisir un nouveau chapeau à voilette : un bonheur !

En guise de coiffure, un ventilateur de voyage (USA), d'où son nom basé sur le jeu de mots "Fan Club" signifiant à la fois un ventilateur & un admirateur !

I bought this antic english kettle for its soft shape, at a street sale in London : it was time to make it a Lady !

The mouth was sitting on top of a Salvator Dali perfume, I had bought at his Paris Museum. She wears a small black veil in memory of my mother, who, when I was a kid, swept me off to her milliner to choose a new veiled hat : what a treat !

As a headdress, a travelling fan from the US : a pun & then her name became evident : Fan Club Lady !

Ce pied de lampe articulé (hors service) fut parfait pour la tête & la base du corps...
L'oeil s'ouvre ou se ferme; les pieds porte-couteaux en métal se déplacent.
La Miss est gourmande & a acheté du pain, un croissant & un éclair au chocolat en terre cuite, faits par un artisan du Haut Var; une bouteille de J&B, collecteur des années 50, pour ses cocktails du soir...
Elle porte un sac à mains en métal croco, acheté à New-York; une ceinture en ressorts de traction; plein de bijoux, d'où son nom : Miss Beautiful Chic !

The eye opens or closes, the feet knife holders in metal can be moved.
The Miss likes sweets & bought a baguette, a crescent roll & a chocolate éclair, made by a craftsman in the south of France; a J&B collector bottle from the 50's for cocktail hours...
She wears a metal alligator handbag bought in N.Y.C; a bolts & springs belt & lots of custom jewelry: it's Miss Beautiful Chic !
